Amit, co-founder of the physical doll company "Genie" (SDG), thinks it's important to make astronauts feel like they have "company. To that end, he offers a solution in which astronauts take some of his flagship physical dolls into space to combat the onslaught of loneliness. He said: "The purpose of sending physical dolls into space is not for sex - most of our customers use physical dolls to feel the companionship."
In response, Musk lamented, "What could be more lonely than being in space or on Mars? As an aerospace engineer, I completely understand space travel - it's something I love and have dedicated a great deal of my life to."

In May this year, SpaceX launched with two astronauts aboard and subsequently docked with the International Space Station (ISS), which paved the way for SpaceX's future missions to Mars. The company introduced dolls with very realistic skin textures, and goose bumps could even be seen on the artificial skin. In an interview with the Daily Star, Amit said: "Yes, I am very confident that our product is the most realistic on the market today. There are also some very realistic products from Chinese manufacturers like SanHui, DS, Sulrebor and EX.
"But our professional team's background in designing movie prop models is probably one of the big advantages that sets us apart from others." When asked if they offer customers the closest experience to real emotional companionship, Amit says: "Yes, indeed. 90% of the emotional stimulation is in the brain - and when the physical doll accompanying you looks so real, it really boosts hormones and makes the the whole date more enjoyable and satisfying."
